Why I Left Legacy IGA and Joined Zilla Security Modern IGA

by | Mar 5, 2025

I’ve spent most of my career helping global organizations acquire, deploy, and maintain Identity Governance and Administration programs and have witnessed firsthand in recent years the need for disruption and innovative change within the industry.

In researching the Modern IGA landscape, it was clear that Zilla Security was harnessing decades of identity marketplace experience to purpose-build solutions which allow organizations to modernize and replace traditional identity administration with identity automation.

Complete visibility into who has access to what has always been the goal of any Legacy IGA program, but the common advice I provided to customers was to focus solely on their “important” applications. The complexity and cost of integration into the rest of their enterprise applications beyond the initial Legacy IGA deployment was always a limiting factor. Zilla’s innovative approach with automated application connectivity, based upon no-code integration via APIs and robotic automation allows us to provide full transparency for all SaaS and custom-built applications within an organization, whether deployed on-prem or in the cloud.

In addition, I attempted to assist most of my Legacy IGA customers with role-based access control (RBAC) programs to centrally define and maintain entitlements into business roles with little to no success. Time and again I witnessed these RBAC programs fail or be abandoned because the highly complex and constant change in users, entitlements, and applications made the roles obsolete the minute they were created. I was blown away by Zilla’s new automated approach to leverage AI in the form of machine learning (ML) to create Zilla AI Profiles and effectively replace much of the RBAC effort that goes into maintaining complex roles. Zilla customers can leverage pre-approved Profiles to accelerate provisioning, eliminate repetitive access approvals, and eliminate up to 75% of permissions that need to be reviewed by a human during user access reviews.

Lastly, I have a ton of pride in being a contributing pioneer over the past two decades to the emergence of IGA and a continued passion to accelerate the success of Modern IGA programs in the cloud and app era. Experience has taught me that successful IGA programs are not simply achieved with just the right solutions, it also requires the expertise and customer success commitment of the organization providing those solutions. Every member of the Zilla Security team (now part of CyberArk) is focused on delivering that vision, and I’m truly excited to become a part of it.
